Going Green
New Engineering Premises
In 2015, ten years after starting SOLID Structures and Infrastructures, we outgrew our offices at Hook Norton Brewery and started to look out for suitable premises to see us through the next stage of our company's development. We were presented with a great opportunity when a derelict retail space in the heart of Chipping Norton became available for sale in 2016.
It ticked so many boxes and as the saying goes, it was a no brainer - it offered enough floor area to allow for our expansion plans, it put us in the centre of a vibrant Cotswolds market town and it offered us the opportunity to shape our own work space.
Energy Efficiency
We were committed to developing our new studio to the highest energy efficiency standards. Energy saving measures included maximising insulation, installing an air source heat pump and underfloor heating.
In our ongoing commitment to preserving our environment, we have just completed the installation of 28 solar PV panels on the roof of our studio in Chipping Norton. The system is expected to generate 6.31MWh electricity per year of which we are expected to use 91%. This will reduce our current total consumption by 31%.
One added benefit is the online tool from Solar Edge to manage the solar panel output. It shows a detailed activity reading of the consumption throughout each day. This tool will help us identify where the spikes are and either reduce them or manage them at more economical times of the day.
Special thanks to Tom Cole and Tim Nicholson of Renewable Energy Co-operative for a smooth and efficient installation.
