Mitigating regulatory risk

Many projects have had several weeks if not months added to its program as a result of complex regulatory permits and planning issues. In depth understanding of regulatory requirements is one of the most important mitigating factors to project creep, program slippage and abortive costs.

Associate Director Argemiro Rivera has in depth understanding of the regulatory processes project teams often have to negotiate. He has put this knowledge to very good use in several workshops he has presented to some of our clients recently.

Some of the areas covered in his workshops are:

Flood risk Assessments (FRA’s)

  • When is a Flood Risk Assessment required?

  • How to assess flood risk and free tools to use

  • How to write successful design and access statements

  • Typical Environment Agency objections to developments and how to overcome them

Sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and Planning

  • New drainage legislation within the NPPF guidance.

  • When is a drainage strategy required?

  • New Sewers for Adoption Design and Construction Guidance (DCG) and SuDS Planning application process

  • DCG mandatory from 1st April 2020. How ready is the planning system?

  • Drainage challenges at Planning Stage and how to overcome them

  • Example of a basic drainage statement to add in a design and access statement document

  • Typical drainage planning conditions and how to overcome them

Civil Permits

  • Work near water in Main Rivers and ordinary watercourses

  • Road Permits (S38, S278, S184, Structural Approval)

  • Drainage Water Companies (S101, S106, S104, S107, S116, Build over agreements)

  • Drainage Highways (S37&38, S115)

  • Consents to discharge to ground and watercourses (Treated foul water or Surface Water

  • In this workshop, you get a cheat sheet with all the relevant info.

Each workshop offers an in-depth look at the areas above along with several others. Argemiro typically discusses the process sequencing, regulatory fees, regulatory requirements, consultation periods, approval periods and information requirements for each of the areas listed above. The aim is to provide guidance and give specific answers to actual problems that you could encounter.

If you are interested to learn more about any of these subject areas, please get in contact with Argemiro at argemiro@solid-engineering.co.uk. He offers these workshops at no charge. With all of us now fully conversant in virtual working and screen sharing, delivering the workshops remotely is no problem.
