RIBA South Awards Winner

SOLID are proud to announce that not one but two of our projects have won awards at this year’s RIBA South Awards. St Hilda’s College won a South RIBA Regional Award 2023. The RIBA Journal reports -

“Gort Scott’s design for St Hilda’s College in Oxford is a stunning development that has created a real sense of place while enhancing and reimagining the landscape of the college. The design uses two buildings, with very distinct characters, to frame the serpentine garden that responds to the meandering River Cherwell. The larger anniversary building successfully defines the college’s boundary, clearly identifies its new entrance, and creates a sense of enclosure for its beautiful gardens. The riverside pavilion, on the other hand, is a more transparent building, which successfully provides a counterpoint to its neighbour’s solidity.”

Radley College Chapel not only secured itself a South RIBA Regional Award 2023, it also won the ‘Building of the Year 2023,’ and the ‘Regional Conservation Award 2023’. The RIBA Journal reports -

The extensions to the chapel at Radley College in Oxford offer a masterclass in modern architectural design. Designed by Purcell, they sit comfortably with this historic building, while at the same time being clearly new interventions.

The project’s primary objective was to increase the chapel’s capacity to meet the private school’s growing intake. The chapel functions as a core part of school life, with pupils and staff attending every evening. While expanding its capacity, the architects have also managed to position a new organ and improve the chapel’s acoustics.”

Congratulations to all those involved in the projects, particularly St. Hilda’s College’s architects - Gort Scott and Radley College Chapel’s architects Purcell. SOLID are thrilled to have been appointed as engineers on both projects.
