Shrewsbury School
Founded in 1552, Shrewsbury is an co-educational school for pupils aged 13 to 18. Since 2008, the previous boys only school moved to a co-educational model. Demand for girls' boarding accommodation has been met with an ambitious program of capital investment. Following Adrian James Architects’ winning entry to an invited competition, SOLID are delighted to be involved in the fifth girls' boarding house which has just been submitted for Planning.
The new building will be built in red brick, similar to the brick used on almost all of the buildings on the school’s campus. Portland Stone highlights around windows and doors will articulate these openings and reduce the apparent mass of the building to a more domestic-like scale.
SOLID are appointed as structural and infrastructure engineers on this project. Working with Adrian James Architects, we have provided input into the structure and drainage strategy for planning purposes. It is planned that the building will be completed by early Autumn 2023.
