Student Success

With the end of the Summer approaching the SOLID team are saying goodbye to not one but two of our staff members who joined us on student placements. Joe Spillane was with us for seven weeks over the Summer to help improve his engineering skills before returning to university. Those seven weeks definitely flew by! We would like to say a huge thank you to Joe for all his hard work, he has been a great asset to the SOLID team. We asked Joe if he would like to give a testimonial to sum up his time with us. Here's what Joe had to say -

"As a young engineer on Summer placement, SOLID has been the perfect company to further my development and improve my understanding in my field. With its wide range of projects, SOLID has allowed me to gather an insight into different aspects of the design process that I hadn’t had experience in before. From the initial stages of meeting with a client and surveying a site, to carrying out calculations and modelling the structure on the different software SOLID provides, to finally creating drawings and focusing on the detailing of the design. My time at SOLID has given me a much broader understanding of what goes into construction and has helped me become a much better and more independent engineer.

All of this has been made possible with the brilliant team that make up the company. They have always been ready and able to help me wherever needed, giving me valuable advice on not only engineering, but my career as a whole. In summary, SOLID is a company who cares about you as an engineer, and has been a fantastic place to develop my career."

We are sad to also say goodbye to Emmanuella Musa who has been with us for a whole year. We have watched Emmanuella grow in confidence over the last twelve months and and tackle complex engineering challenges. Emmanuella is definitely on track to becoming a fantastic engineer. We wish her all the best in completing her Meng in Civil Engineering and in all her future endeavours. We have loved having her on the SOLID team.

When asked how she felt her year with SOLID went Emmanuella replied - "I'm both grateful and proud of the valuable experience I've gained during my 12 month placement at SOLID. The increased responsibility I've taken on as the months have gone by has not only established my fundamental technical knowledge, but also my non-engineering skills. The consistent encouragement from my colleagues at SOLID has pushed me beyond my comfort zone which has been integral to increasing my self-confidence in the job. The insight due to the vast experience in the office has also been beneficial to me by exposing the various roles and disciplines in the construction industry.

As part of a smaller company I've admired the collaborative nature of how work is accomplished at SOLID. Each colleague's ability to apply the company's values to every task strengthens the great culture within the company. Moving forward in my engineering career I'm thrilled to apply what my placement at SOLID has instilled in me to future endeavours."

Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback Emmanuella!

SOLID are always keen to help students nurture their careers and we wish these two the best of luck in all that they do!
