A Cheesy Throwback
Festival season is very much upon us and if you are local to the Cotswolds then chances are you have heard of The Big Feastival. It’s been 11 years since Blur-bassist-turned-cheesemaker Alex James first turned his farm into the go-to party destination in Oxfordshire, alongside celebrity chef Jamie Oliver. Each year sees the festival return bigger and better than the year before.
Back in 2016 one of the additions to the site included the ‘Cheese Hub’ - initially created as a spot where Alex James could showcase his cheesy wears. Solid provided consultancy advice along with BLA Architects to bring this redundant Dutch barn back into use. The barn was replaced with a new steel frame, with a first floor mezzanine and a fully openable elevation at ground floor level. The barn houses a cheese preparation area, function space and bar area.
Those of you that are regular Feastival goers will know that the Cheese Hub is so much more than a sales area. The hub is now synonymous with late night parties and some hard core dancing. It features a fantastic all day cocktail bar where Alex and his special guests spin tunes both day and night. With tasty food vans either side of the hub, you really don’t need to go anywhere else!
However, if you do venture further afield you won’t be disappointed. With legendary musicians, heaps of food and fun for all the family, the Feastival really does have it all. With the Feastival returning next week we couldn’t help revisiting our Cheese Hub project and eyeing up what’s on. This year’s line-up includes Stereophonics, Basement Jaxx and The Human League and we have to admit, we can’t wait. With the Cotswolds home to not only The Big Feastival, but Cornbury and Wilderness festivals too, we certainly know we have chosen a great spot for our SOLID Oxfordshire offices.
