Bamford Wellness
Daylesford Organic Farm
For most living in the Cotswolds, Daylesford Organic has become a household name with founder Carole Bamford expanding the company on a yearly basis. The Bamford family began farming organically in Staffordshire 40 years ago and then moved the organic farming business to their Gloucestershire home approximately 25 years ago. Since then, the farm and subsequent farm shop has grown exponentially and Carole Bamford’s empire now includes several magnificent Cotswold gastro pubs, many with accommodation, holiday lets, a Spa on the Daylesford estate and of course, further farm shops in desirable London neighbourhoods.
The Club by Bamford
2023 sees the launch of Carole Bamford’s latest venture ‘The Club by Bamford’. The Club, located on the 3500 acres of organic farmland in the Cotswolds, is advertised as a ‘360-degree wellness experience’ which incorporates health, fitness, and holistic wellbeing. The club wants to see its members ‘B. Well, B. Wild, B. You’ and encourages them to look after all aspects of their body, their mind, and their lives. The facilities include a 340 square meter gym with state-of-the-art equipment, a 25-meter indoor pool, a warm outdoor plunge pool with panoramic views across the orchard and an informal restaurant with indoor and outdoor space.
Wellness Club Structural Detailing
SOLID were appointed as Structural Engineers on the two-storey extension to the new wellness club which houses the sauna, steam room and plunge pool, with roof terrace above, working alongside Haines Gadd and Greaves Architects and Montrose.
The braced steel framed building nestles into the site and has traditional cladding and detailing to match other buildings at Daylesford. It is supported on strip foundations and a reinforced concrete retaining wall along the rear. This accommodates the change in level across the site, sitting alongside the adjacent foundations to the swimming pool in the main building.
The ground floor is constructed with a suspended beam and block system due to the existing ground conditions and levels, and the flexibility for future change of use at terrace level is created with a composite metal deck.
The roof terrace connects seamlessly to the main first floor balcony and provides a space for relaxation on a sunny day. This is accessed from the gardens via an external in situ concrete stair.
We look forward to sharing further images of the completed project in the near future.
