Raynes Park Approaches Completion
SOLID are pleased to share that our project with the All England Tennis and Croquet Club at Raynes Park is now approaching completion. Raynes Park is a privately owned community tennis centre in Southwest London, located just 3.5 miles from Wimbledon. Owned by AELTC since 1990, the site has been used in conjunction with the Wimbledon Championships for many years and provides facilities for schools and the local community.
Community Tennis
AELTC began redeveloping the site back in 2016 to improve provisions and to ensure the site can accommodate a larger proportion of the community. This initial redevelopment saw the construction of six acrylic courts, three of which were covered by an inflatable air dome to ensure play commences no matter the weather.
In 2019 the redevelopment of the site continued. The next phase included the construction of a further three courts inside an additional air dome, Sixteen championship grass courts, and a maintenance building.
Structural Design
SOLID are proud to have been appointed as Structure and Infrastructure engineers working alongside building contractors Beard on the final phase of the redevelopment. This stage sees the construction of a contemporary new clubhouse and adjacent courtyard studios and the formation of a new carpark. The design of the clubhouse includes complex curved geometry and the use of various structural materials. These materials include glulam, timber, masonry, steel, and concrete elements. We took a proactive approach and led our design using BIM. Using 3D models highlighted coordination issues early and developed solutions with the design team. This helped keep challenges on site to a minimum.
It is fantastic to see all the hard work paying off and work on site nearing completion. The clubhouse provides valuable new assets to the club including changing room and showers, catering facilities, a multi-purpose studio and viewing balcony over the grass courts.
We are pleased to share these recent images of the redevelopment which showcase the sheer scale of the facilities on offer. More photos coming soon once the development completes.
