Ince Biomass Energy Plant >

Ince Biomass Energy Plant utilises advanced gasification technology to process 170,000t wood waste annually. It produces 21.5MW of renewable electricity. It is expected to save 65,000t of carbon dioxide each year; the equivalent to taking 40,000 average cars off the road.

The challenge

The site is located in waste land with 9-12m of underlying alluvial clay. This was compounded by the lack of detailed loadings information at design stage. Based on the ground investigation report provided by the client, the piles were initially estimated at between 35-40m long.

The SOLID Approach

Our SCIA models were crucial in analysing differential and final displacements of the various structures. Close liaison with a ground investigation specialist allowed us to design the 1342 piles with reduced pile lengths of 25 - 30m.
