Newton Lodge Challenge.jpg

The challenge

Working on a site with a very rich history, the challenge was to create a building that referenced the history in massing, and rhythm whilst being undeniably contemporary

Newton Lodge Approach.jpg

The approach

The Pre-Prep addition to Summer Fields School is echoing the adjacent buildings with simple windows punched in the metal facade in a rhythm similar to its neighbours’. A simple steel structure allows for crisp detailing to achieve the contemporary look of the addition.

This project received a Commendation from the judges in the Oxford Preservation Trust 2019 Awards who thought the building is a valuable asset to the school and the wider community by improving the street scape substantially.
