Concrete structures 2

In the second of our series on high rise concrete frame structures, we are looking at Abbey House on Baker Street, London. This nine-storey development of 120 apartments was built on the old Abbey National Building Society Head Office site on Baker Street.

The development includes 80 new private apartments and 40 Housing Association apartments. The building has two levels of underground car parking serviced by two car lifts and numerous car stackers to allow adequate car parking. The development also includes a concierge desk, a fully fitted out gym including an endless pool and small commercial unit.

The new basement was excavated under Baker Street and built over both the Metropolitan and Jubilee Tube Lines. The original listed facade was retained including the clock tower with the new concrete frame structure built behind and alongside it. Our extensive experience in Heritage projects was invaluable in integrating the new concrete framed structure with the retained clock tower facade.
